From 28 to 30 July 2025, the Villa Verte RN1 in Ambatomirahavavy - Antananarivo, Madagascar, hosted the national workshop to present the results of the IEPPE project (Investing in Early Childhood Education and Protection). The event, coordinated by Action Éducation in partnership with the national authorities and various technical stakeholders, provided an opportunity to present the tools developed and the capacity-building actions carried out since 2022.
More than a hundred participants attended: pre-school educators, cycle T1 and T2 teachers, educational supervisors, school headmasters, ZAP heads, CISCO and DREN representatives, as well as delegates from the Ministry of Education and civil society. This meeting is a key stage in capitalising on the project's achievements and identifying priorities for the future.
A structuring project for Madagascar's education system
Since its launch, IEPPE has helped to improve the quality of education and the protection of young children in Madagascar through :
- Training and skills enhancement for more than 84 education professionals (pre-school, primary and supervisory)
- The introduction of innovative teaching tools: a harmonised report card on pre-school learning achievements (assessment of school readiness), a tool for monitoring pupils' well-being and participation, a teaching kit, toolkits for teachers, educators and families, etc.
- Setting up and structuring networks of educators and educational coordination units to support the transformation of practices.
Three days of exchanges and experience sharing
Participants were able to analyse the results collectively, share their experiences and suggest areas for improvement. The programme included :
- Study of the data generated by the use of the project tools
- Inspiring testimonials from the field
- Collaborative workshops to formulate recommendations
- Team-building activities to encourage cohesion between players.
Particular emphasis was placed on the role of pedagogical coordinators and on the integration of intersectional gender into educational approaches.
Valuing the commitment of local players
At the ceremony, 11 people from the field - educators, teachers, supervisors, school headmasters and ZAP leaders - were honoured for their creativity, involvement and commitment to the education of young children.
Towards sustainable development
The workshop's final recommendations aim to :
- Integrating teaching tools into national curricula on a long-term basis
- Ensuring the continuity of training programmes
- Supporting local educational initiatives
- Influencing public policy for more inclusive education from early childhood.
By consolidating the foundations of a shared national strategy, this workshop is helping to pave the way for high-quality, inclusive and sustainable pre-school education in Madagascar, for the benefit of children, communities and the education system as a whole.
